Project Stitches

Project Stitches is an ED Initiative that uses expertise/manpower from the “under-siege” garment industry where REDS contracts with former machinists (beneficiaries) to source fabric to manufacture  into finished soft (sewn) toys and to market/sell/distribute them to consumers.

How Does Your Donation Help?

Your donation goes towards manufacturing & marketing – A rule of thumb is that for every R1,00 donated will yield a revenue of approximately R4,00 for the beneficiaries.

REDS purchases all materials, the Beneficiaries manufacture the items and REDS assists by marketing to retail outlets in larger Cape town. Also every Saturday morning REDS runs a stand at The Biscuit Mill, Woodstock.

Plans are under way to market the toys on-line.

The goal is for beneficiaries to be totally independent of our assistance within 24 months of starting.

SOCIAL CONTENT (Dual nature)

What is the Dual Nature of this Initiative and How Does Your Donation Help the Social Aspect?

Toys are provided to Disadvantaged Crèches and Play Groups. This is where you can see the dual nature of your donations as it enables REDS to fund the purchase of toys for Disadvantaged Children thereby increasing sales volumes and sustainability of the Enterprise Development element of the initiative

REDS is in talks with several schools to introduce this as a sewing project as extramural and/or fundraising activities for their own school funds.
