Project Hout

An Enterprise Development (ED) Initiative, Manufacturing & Marketing Old Fashioned Wooden Toys.

REDS selects & designs toys for the range

Beneficiaries manufacture the Wooden Toys and REDS helps with promotion, marketing, sales and delivery of the finished product.

  • Manufacture

This is done entirely by beneficiaries in Ocean View. James Laguma is the beneficiary ably assisted by Mr Michael Felix, a pensioner, plus others from Ocean View.

  • Marketing

Marketed to retail outlets in Greater Cape Town.

In addition, every Saturday morning REDS runs a stall at The Biscuit Mill, Woodstock, and at times runs stalls at other craft and village markets in various suburbs.

On-line marketing is presently being prepared for SA and International Markets

  • Target

The aim is to have the beneficiaries performing all the above activities within approximately 12 months. They can elect at any time to take over the whole operation subject to REDS being satisfied of the project’s future sustainability.

  • How Does Your Donation Help ED?

A rule-of-thumb calculation is that for every R1.00 donated purchases materials that represents a gross revenue of approximately R4,00 for the beneficiaries.

  • SOCIAL CONTENT (Dual nature)
  • What is the Dual Nature of this Initiative and How Does Your Donation Help Socially?
  • Toys are provided to Disadvantaged Crèches and Play Groups, and your donation enables REDS to purchase the toys for distribution to the children thereby increasing sales volumes, profit and sustainability of the Enterprise Development element of the initiative

  • OTHER
    • REDS is in talks with several schools to introduce this as a project as extramural and/or fundraising activities
