  • Children Aren’t Learning
  • The National Education System is failing/has failed – this is common knowledge.
  • Indictment on The System!  – - – Even Teachers say “The evidence is overwhelming that education is failing” (28 June 2011National Professional Teachers’ Association of SA – Naptosa said).
  • The Minister of Education on 19 July 2010 introduced “Action Plan to 2014 – Towards the Realisation of Schooling 2025”.
    • Our Comment: While it is heartening to see that steps are being taken to improve the position, it’s discouraging to see the time-frame contemplated; because by then millions of children would have slipped through the cracks. As a Country, South Africa cannot afford this attrition.
  • The Human Sciences Research Council “Youth Policy Initiative” in 2008 asked youth the question
    • What do young people need the most to succeed in life?
      • 57% Answered ‘Quality Education’
      • 15% Answered ‘Access to Information’ (Education)
      • 72% Total – - – with a Reference to Education
